My current read,  which I’m only halfway through, examines a dying way of life.  For now, all I can tell you  is that it chronicles the super-rich, who are still rich, just not super.

To that end, I am happy to help them adjust by offering them a taste of Kielbasa Cabbage Skillet. This is, most assuredly, peasant food. How do I know? Oh, just a hunch. I mean, this dish is full of cabbage and potatoes. Do you picture cabbage and potatoes served under chandeliers, gently spooned up by ladies who wear elbow gloves?

Me neither.

I picture a single pot in the middle of a rough wooden table in a windowless hovel, and plates made of dull, hammered tin.

Also, I’m pretty sure this is the food of prosperous peasants, seeing as how they added sausage to the dish.

The thing is, peasant food can be pretty tasty. Cooked tender and drowned in a sweet red sauce, it can satisfy people who’ve been bringing in the sheaves since sun-up, or suburbanites who’ve been sweeping cats off their laps so they can work on their computers.

Give it a try.

I’ll get back to you about those rich people.
