When I announced that Christmas dinner would feature salmon, the skeptics among us kept their skepticism to themselves. Which was wise. This means that they did not have to feel bad as they wolfed down some pretty delicious food.

Christmas salmon

The secret was lots of brown sugar.  Sugar solves everything, don’t you know?

We filled out the rest of the meal with weapon-sized baked potatoes, lazy rolls made from frozen bread dough and these pack-a-punch cookies.

As for Norman Mailer, a little marathon reading brought me to the bitter end of The Naked and the Dead. I won’t give away who died, who lived, or any of the other nasty surprises. Mailer’s soldiers went on some bad hikes and he described nearly every bend in the river, which is why this thing took so long. If his estate could pitch in and help me pay the library fine I incurred for sticking with his story, I’d appreciate it.

The next books on the pile tackle plastic surgery, the Civil War, Puerto Ricans, Gothic cathedrals and Arthurian legends (two separate authors). What to choose, what to choose?

In other business, I’m listing my book on newldsfiction.com and they require a published excerpt. You can find it next door to this post. Go ahead and take a peek.
