I don’t know if you have boarded the salted-caramel flavor train, but I climbed on it long ago. The gateway drug was Sanders salted caramel chocolates, which you can buy at Costco (Don’t order these wonderful things. Go. To. The. Store. Chocolate doesn’t ship well, and certainly not in July).

I haven’t had my fix lately, so this recipe for Salted Caramel Apple Poke Cake snatched my attention. Given that it’s summer, I probably should get my fill of ice cream and watermelon but, really, why let an excuse to eat cake pass you by?

My piece tasted like syrup-soaked pancakes, with a salty touch. In fact, there a local pancake house whose flapjacks taste more like cake the breakfast. Their pancakes and this salted caramel creation could be fraternal twins.

You can find the recipe here.

You’ll see food posts here for the next few weeks as I work my way through an extremely long book. Keep your forks ready.
